Another Woolworths 1984 store closure was store 0459/7 Golders Green which had opened in approximately 1931. It was located at 152/154 Golders Green Road and is now a book exchange and a fitness centre. It’s noticeable as a former employee that the store performance was likely to have been relatively poor due to it’s high ‘off pitch’ location in relation to the other shopping facilities in the area.

Hi Stuart ,nice to see another website celebrating the history of Woolworths , the old 1970”s board did reluctantly sell stores if cash was needed for a specific expensive project which included selling stores to purchase B&Q and Dodge City did to be the first into the expanding diy market. This was before the 1982 takeover a fact rarely noted. They did not however be believe in selling freeholds as this underpinned the strength of the business and the security of long serving employees. Sadly lack of these assets contributed greatly to our demise. Is it really over 7 years ??!! Regards Richard Northover
